In 1990, Jean Fourmentin-Guilbert created the Fourmentin-Guilbert Foundation to “promote biology”.

Jean Fourmentin-Guilbert graduated from Arts et Métiers in 1950 and started his career as industrial engineer. He built his own company in order to be financially independent. He then devoted his energy to biological research and in particular to genome reading and to resolving atomic structure of proteins.
This dual culture of science and engineering is at the root of the Fondation approach which pays a lot of attention to using an auditable methodology.
