The role of foundations in research
The method makes the difference, not the invested funds
Sharing research results
The Structural Genomics Consortium (SGC), a non-profit organization issued from a public-private partnership, performs an exhaustive inventory of proteins involved in Alzheimer desease, diabtes, cancer or malaria. To trigger innovation in drug discovery each laboratory diffuses its results without any restriction making them usable by scientits all over the world.
The USD 10 million Archon Genomics prize of the X PRIZE Foundation will be awarded to the first team to read 100 human genomes within 30 days for 1000 USD or less per genome. The goal of the competition is to make sequencing faster, more accurate, less expensive and to enable a medical doctor to know the genome of each patient.
